"Tinplate" in Wikipedia: Tinplate is a thin cold-rolled steel metal whose surface was coated electrolytically with tin. This coating serves above all the corrosion prevention. A layer of approx. 0.3 µ m of tin, this corresponds to about 2 g/m ², is enough to protect the steel by sealing against corrosion. About 70 percent of the made tinplate are used in the food area for the production by tins and drinks cans.
